Flett, John

Born: Crawley, England, 1963

Died:Florence, Italy, 1991

John Flett began his career as the star of his year at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, from where he graduated in 1985. Like John Galliano, Flett had a talent for unconventional cutting. His first collection caught Vogue‘s attention and was bought by Joseph in London and Bloomingdales in New York; he added menswear and diffusion lines to his repertoire in 1986.

In 1989 Flett moved to Paris, working with Claude Montana on his first couture collection for Lanvin. When that didn’t work out, he was employed by designer Enrico Coveri in Florence. He was on the verge of signing another deal with the Italian fashion house Zuccoli, when he died tragically young, never fulfilling his early promise like his friend, John Galliano, was able to.
